CPW keeps taking the tablets

Popular high-street mobile phone and device retailer Carphone Warehouse has unveiled it is now selling the two most sought after tablets – the HTC Flyer and LG Optimus, from £129.99 and £299.99, respectively.

Both the new tablet devices have just arrived at both Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse, with contracts starting from £25 per month.

The HTC Flyer is their first ever tablet computer, which runs from a 7-inch 1024×600 TFT screen, with a 1.5GHz processor and a 5 megapixel camera, 32GB of internal storage and Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 with the HTC Sense overlay to that very OS.

LG’s Optimus Pad was first announced at Las Vegas’ CES, under the guise of the T-Mobile G Tablet where this 8.9-inch touch screen device is now available and unbranded.

LG’s Optimus Pad is a tablet device that is powered by dual core, in the 1Ghz Nvida Tegra 2 processor. The Pad is running from the more suited Android ‘Honeycomb’ 3.0 OS for tablets, which is specifically geared up for these devices unlike Android ‘Gingebread’ 2.3.

The 8.9-inch screen has a 1280×768 resolution and 15:9 aspect ratio for displaying video, whilst the Optimus Pad has full 1080p video decoding for decent HD playback.

On the back of the device is a dual lens camera, which operates in the same way the LG Optimus 3D mobile for 3D capture – only the Pad can’t display those image natively, but can directly export them to a 3D TV screen.

Carphone Warehouse is now stocking the HTC Flyer on a £25 per month Talk Mobile contract, which includes 5GB of data or for £599.99 SIM free and unlocked.

The Optimus Pad is around from a £25 per month price plan, with the same 5GB data allowance or for £749.99 SIM free.

One Mobile Ring has recently taken delivery of the Flyer, where we’ve produced an initial thoughts review from the contributors of OMR here, along with publishing a hands-on walkthrough in pictures here and a video from MWC here.

We also caught up with LG in Barcelona this year, where we managed to capture on video a hands-on walkthrough of the tablet device – seen here.
