Apple launches new iPhone 4S mobile phone

With the same looks as the older iPhone 4

Cupertino based computer company Apple has unveiled an update to last year’s Apple iPhone 4 – the Apple iPhone 4S, with a faster processor and graphics, better camera and greater storage options.

Apple announced the new iPhone 4S at a press event from their California HQ in America, where the mobile arrives with the same looks and design to the 2010 model, only with some updates to the hardware inside.

The iPhone 4S will ship with a dual core A5 processor that is said to be twice as fast as the iPhone 4, with dual core graphics that is seven times the speed of the previous device.

This new version of the phone has been noted to offer 8 hours of 3G talk time, 14 hours on 2G, 6 hours of 3G web browsing, 9 hours of WIFI surfing, 10 hours of video play back and 50 hours on music settings.

Apple’s wireless settings have been improved in the 4S phone for better call quality, whilst being able to switch intelligently between two antennas, to both transmit and receive – insuring that the loss of signal problems of the iPhone 4 won’t be seen again.

Last year’s iPhone 4 was only capable of reaching download speeds of 7.2Mbps and upstream of 5.8 – when away from WIFI – where the iPhone 4S is capable of hitting 14.4Mbps downloading and 5.8Mbps upstream, twice as fast as the older model.

The new Apple handset is now a worldwide phone, with both GSM features and access to the American CDMA network for the first time, in one single product.

On-board the iPhone 4S is a new camera with an 8 megapixel capability, where the iPhone 4 shipped with a 5MP variant. This allows for the image capture to be 3624X2448 in format size, with 60-percent more pixels than the last Apple phone and with 73-percent more illumination, which is also 33-percent faster at picture taking.

The filter used on the camera is 30-percent more sharper too, thanks to the five elements of the new lens and with a f/2.4 aperture.

Apple has designed the Image Signal Processor used by the phone, which now has a 26-percent better white balance with face detection and only takes 1.1seconds to capture a picture and half a second for the next.

This new 8MP camera offers up the ability to record video in full 1080p HD, where the iPhone 4 could only muster 720p and the new mobile has video image stabilisation and temporal noise reduction as an added bonus.

There is new voice detection in the iPhone 4S that recognises voice instructions on a level not really seen before, with an intelligent assistant responding in a more helpful way when questions are even asked vaguely – with a more natural conversational style, under the name of Siri.

The iPhone 4S arrives with the new iOS 5 operating system that has 200 new features, and starts to roll out on October 12th to the older iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch 4th and 3rd generation devices.

Apple’s iPhone 4S has a new storage capacity option with 64GB, which now joins the 32GB and 16GB models where by December time the phone should have reached over 70 different countries and with 100 carriers.

The iPhone 4S opens up for pre-order on October 7th and will be available on the 14th in either black or white, with a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB mobile, $299 for the 32GB handset and $399 for the new 64GB phone.
