With Quad core CPUs
South Korean conglomerate Lucky Goldstar has announced they are to license ARM processors, in upcoming mobile devices and home products.
LG will be licensing technology such as the ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore processor and ARM Mali-T604 Graphics Processing Unit, for use in their new product ranges.
The processor company is a popular choice amongst handset manufacturers, along with being a favourite for their lower power and high performance with the likes of Nokia.
ARM chips are already being used by LG, where the dual-core 1Ghz Cortex-A9 MPCore runs the world’s first twin processor based LG Optimus 2X P900 mobile phone and this new deal confirms ARM CPUs will still be used in future devices.
LG first licensed ARM technology in 1995, where the 16-year history between the two companies has seen the processors used across the South Korean products from handsets to televisions.
The ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore hit the headlines late last year as it was unveiled the company has reached the speed of 2.5Ghz with the Quad core CPU. The chip also uses the same instruction set as the A Cortex A processors and from the outset can run the platforms of Linux, Android, Flash, Java, Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Symbian.
Besides just mobile phones, the Cortex-A15 can be used in tablet devices, set top boxes and even digital TVs.
